ఓం యోగాయ నమః | ॐ योगाय नमः | OM Yogāya namaḥ
జ్ఞానేంద్రియాణి సర్వాణి నిరుధ్య మనసా సహా ।
ఏకత్వభావనా యోగః క్షేత్రజ్ఞపరమాత్మనో ॥
సర్వ జ్ఞానేంద్రియములను ఇంద్రియ విషయములను ఆయా సంకల్పముల చేయుచు వాని వలన కలుగు అనుభవములను జీవునకు అందజేయు మనస్సును కూడ తమ తమ వ్యాపారములయందు ప్రవర్తిల్లనీయక నీరోధించి క్షేత్రజ్ఞ (జీవాత్మ) పరమాత్మలకు ఏకత్వమను భావన చేయుట యోగము అని తాత్పర్యము.

యోగస్థః కురు కర్మాణి సఙ్గం త్వక్త్వా ధనంజయ ।
సిద్ధ్యసిద్ధ్యోః సమో భూత్వా సమత్వం యోగ ఉచ్యతే ॥ 48 ॥
ఓ అర్జునా! నీవు యోగనిష్ఠయందుండి, సంగమును త్యజించి, కార్యము ఫలించినను, ఫలించకపోయినను సమానముగ నున్నవాడవై కర్మలను జేయుము. అట్టి సమత్వబుద్ధియే యోగమనబడును.
యోగమనగా నేమి? కార్యము యొక్క సిద్ధి, అసిద్ధులయందు సమభావము గలిగియుండుటయే యోగమని ఇట పేర్కొనబడినది. మనస్సు - ఆత్మలయొక్క కలయికయే యోగము. జీవ పరమాత్మలయొక్క సంయోగమే యోగము. అట్టి యోగస్థితియందే ఈ నిర్వికారసమస్థితి ఉదయించును. గావున దానికిన్ని యోగమను పేరిచట పెట్టబడెను. కావున యోగమునందుండి అనగా ఆత్మయందు నిలుకడగలిగి దృశ్యముతో సంగమును త్యజించి ఫలముయొక్క ప్రాప్తాప్రాప్తములందు సమభావముగల్గి కార్యములను జేయమని భగవానుడు ఆనతిచ్చుచున్నాడు.
అట్టి యోగముచే పొందబడదగువాడు కావున విష్ణుడును 'యోగః' అనబడును.
Jñānēṃdriyāṇi sarvāṇi nirudhya manasā sahā,
ēkatvabhāvanā yōgaḥ kṣētrajñaparamātmanō.
The contemplation of the unity of the Jivātma and the Paramātmā, with the organs of knowledge and the mind withheld, is Yoga.
Bhagavad Gita - Chapter 2
Yogasthaḥ kuru karmāṇi saṅgaṃ tvaktvā dhanañjaya,
Siddhyasiddhyoḥ samo bhūtvā samatvaṃ yoga ucyatē. (48)
By being established in Yoga, O Dhanañjaya, undertake actions, casting off attachment and remaining equipoised in success and failure. Such equanimity is called Yoga.
What is Yoga? Yoga means to concentrate the mind upon the Supreme by controlling the ever-disturbing senses. Undertake actions for pleasing God, but not for propitiating Him to become favourable towards you casting off attachment, in the form, 'God will be pleased with me.' This should be done equipoised in success and failure - even in the success characterized by the attainment of Knowledge that arises from the purification of the mind when one performs actions without hankering for the results and in the failure that arises from its opposite.
He (Viṣṇu) is the Yoga because he is to be reached by means of it.
| योगो योगविदां नेता प्रधानपुरुषेश्वरः । |
| नारसिंहवपु श्श्रीमान् केशवः पुरुषोत्तमः ॥ 3 ॥ |
| యోగో యోగవిదాం నేతా ప్రధానపురుషేశ్వరః । |
| నారసింహవపు శ్శ్రీమాన్ కేశవః పురుషోత్తమః ॥ 3 ॥ |
| Yogo yogavidāṃ netā pradhānapuruṣeśvaraḥ । |
| Nārasiṃhavapu śśrīmān keśavaḥ puruṣottamaḥ ॥ 3 ॥ |
