ఓం ధనుర్ధరాయ నమః | ॐ धनुर्धराय नमः | OM Dhanurdharāya namaḥ
శ్రీమాన్ రామో మహద్ధనుర్ధారయామాన యః ప్రభుః ।
స రామరూపో భగవాన్ ధనుర్ధర ఇతీర్యతే ॥
మహానుభావుడగు శ్రీరామునిగా మహా ధనువును ధరించెను కనుక ధనుర్ధరః.
:: శ్రీమద్రామాయణే బాలకాణ్డే సప్తషష్టితమస్సర్గః ::
ఇదం ధనుర్వరం బ్రహ్మన్ సంస్పృశామీహ పాణినా ।
యత్నవాంశ్చ భవిష్యామి తోలనే పూరణేఽపి వా ॥ 14 ॥
బాఢమిత్యేవ తం రాజా మునిశ్చ సమభాషిత ॥ 15 ॥
లీలయా స ధనుర్మధ్యే జగ్రాహ వచనాన్మునేః ।
పశ్యతాం నృసహస్రాణాం బహూనాం రఘునన్దనః ।
ఆరోపయిత్వా ధర్మాత్మా పూరయమాస తద్ధనుః ॥ 16 ॥
"ఓ బ్రహ్మర్షీ! ఇప్పుడే ఈ మహాధనుస్సును చేతితో తాకి చూచెదను. దానిని పైకెత్తి, అల్లెత్రాడును సంధించుటకు పూనుకొనెదను." అందులకు విశ్వామిత్రుడును, జనకుడును 'సరే' అని పలికిరి.
అంతట ఆ రఘునందనుడు వేలకొలది సదస్యులు చూచుచుండగా ముని ఆజ్ఞను అనుసరించి, ధనుస్సు మధ్యభాగమును అవలీలగా పట్టుకొనెను. ధనుర్విద్యా కుశలుడును, మహాశక్తిమంతుడును అయిన రాముని కరస్పర్శ మాత్రముననే ఆ ధనుస్సు వంగెను. (అప్పుడు ఆ నరశ్రేష్ఠుడు వింటినారిని సంధించి, దానిని ఆకర్ణాంతము లాగెను. వెంటనె ఆ విల్లు పెళ్ళున విఱిగెను. ఆ ధనుర్భంగధ్వని పిడుగుపాటువలె భయంకరముగానుండెను.)
श्रीमान् रामो महद्धनुर्धारयामान यः प्रभुः ।
स रामरूपो भगवान् धनुर्धर इतीर्यते ॥
Śrīmān rāmo mahaddhanurdhārayāmāna yaḥ prabhuḥ,
Sa rāmarūpo bhagavān dhanurdhara itīryate.
As Śrīmān Rāma, wielded the great bow and hence He is called Dhanurdharaḥ.
:: श्रीमद्रामायणे बालकाण्डे सप्तषष्टितमस्सर्गः ::
इदं धनुर्वरं ब्रह्मन् संस्पृशामीह पाणिना ।
यत्नवांश्च भविष्यामि तोलने पूरणेऽपि वा ॥ १४ ॥
बाढमित्येव तं राजा मुनिश्च समभाषित ॥ १५ ॥
लीलया स धनुर्मध्ये जग्राह वचनान्मुनेः ।
पश्यतां नृसहस्राणां बहूनां रघुनन्दनः ।
आरोपयित्वा धर्मात्मा पूरयमास तद्धनुः ॥ १६ ॥
Śrīmad Rāmāyaṇa - Book 1, Chapter 67
Idaṃ dhanurvaraṃ brahman saṃspr̥śāmīha pāṇinā,
Yatnavāṃśca bhaviṣyāmi tolane pūraṇe’pi vā. 14.
Bāḍamityeva taṃ rājā muniśca samabhāṣita. 15.
Līlayā sa dhanurmadhye jagrāha vacanānmuneḥ,
Paśyatāṃ nr̥sahasrāṇāṃ bahūnāṃ raghunandanaḥ,
Āropayitvā dharmātmā pūrayamāsa taddhanuḥ. 16.
"Now I wish to get the feel of this supreme bow, oh, Brahman, and I shall try to brandish it, or even try to take aim with it" said Rāma. "All Right!" said the saint and king to Rāma in chorus, and Rāma upon the word of the sage grasping it at the middle hand grip playfully grabbed the bow.
While many thousands of men are witnessing that right-minded Rama the legatee of Raghu stringed the bow effortlessly. (Further, that dextrous one stringed that bow with bowstring and started to stretch it up to his ear to examine its tautness, but that glorious one who is foremost among men, Rāma, broke that bow medially. Then there bechanced an explosive explosion when the bow is broken, like the explosiveness of down plunging thunder, and the earth is tremulously tremulous, as it happens when a mountain is exploding.)
| धनुर्धरो धनुर्वेदो दण्डो दमयिता दमः । |
| अपराजितस्सर्वसहो नियन्ता नियमो यमः ॥ ९२ ॥ |
| ధనుర్ధరో ధనుర్వేదో దణ్డో దమయితా దమః । |
| అపరాజితస్సర్వసహో నియన్తా నియమో యమః ॥ 92 ॥ |
| Dhanurdharo dhanurvedo daṇḍo damayitā damaḥ, |
| Aparājitassarvasaho niyantā niyamo yamaḥ ॥ 92 ॥ |
