ఓం శుభాఙ్గాయ నమః | ॐ शुभाङ्गाय नमः | OM Śubhāṅgāya namaḥ
ధ్యేయత్వాచ్ఛోభనై రఙ్గైః శుభాఙ్గః ఇతి కథ్యతే శోభనములగు అందమైన అంగములతో కూడిన సుందరరూపుడిగా భక్తుల సుద్ధాంతఃకరణములతో ధ్యానము చేయబడదగినవాడు కనుక శుభాంగః.
:: శ్రీమద్రామాయణే సున్దరకాణ్డే పఞ్చత్రింశస్సర్గః ॥
దున్దుభిస్వననిర్ఘోషః స్నిగ్ధవర్ణః ప్రతాపవాన్ ।
సమస్సమవిభక్తాఙ్గో వర్ణం శ్యామం సమాశ్రితః ॥ 16 ॥
త్రిస్థిరస్త్రిప్రలమ్బశ్చ త్రిసమస్త్రిషు చోన్నతః ।
త్రితామ్రస్త్రిషు చ స్నిగ్ధో గమ్భీరస్త్రిషు నిత్యశః ॥ 17 ॥
త్రివలీవాంస్త్ర్యవనతః చతుర్వ్యఙ్గస్త్రిశీర్షవాన్ ।
చతుష్కలశ్చతుర్లేఖః చతుష్కిష్కుశ్చతుస్సమః ॥ 18 ॥
చతుర్దశసమద్వన్ద్వః చతుర్దంష్ట్రశ్చతుర్గతిః ।
మహోష్ఠహనునాసశ్చ పఞ్చస్నిగ్ధోఽష్టవంశవాన్ ॥ 19 ॥
దశపద్మో దశబృహత్ త్రిభిర్వ్యాప్తోద్విశుక్లవాన్ ।
షడున్నతో నవతనుః త్రిభిర్వ్యాప్నోతి రాఘవః ॥ 20 ॥
దుంధుభి ధ్వనివలె గంభీరమైన కంఠ స్వరము కలవాడు. నిగనిగలాడు శరీర ఛాయ కలవాడు. ప్రతాపశాలి, ఎక్కువ తక్కువలు లేకుండ పరిపుష్టములైన చక్కని అంగములు కలవాడు. మేఘ శ్యామ వర్ణ శోభితుడు.
వక్షఃస్థలము, మణికట్టు, పిడికిలి - ఈ మూడు స్థానములును దృఢముగా కలవాడు. దీర్ఘములైన కనుబొమలు, బాహువులు, ముష్కములు కలవాడు. తల వెంట్రుకలు, ముష్కములు, మోకాళ్ళు - ఈ మూడును సమ ప్రమాణమున కలవాడు. ఉన్నతమయిన నాభి, కుక్షి, వక్షః స్థలము కలవాడు. ఎఱ్ఱని నేత్రాంతములు, నఖములు, అఱచేతులు, అఱికాళ్ళు కలవాడు. నునుపయిన పాదరేఖలు, కేశములు, లింగమణియు కలవాడు. ఆయన కంఠస్వరము, నడక, నాభి - ఈ మూడును గంభీరములైనవి.
శ్రీరాముని కంఠమునందు త్రిరేఖలు కలవు. స్తనములు, స్తనాగ్రములు, పాదరేఖలు నిమ్నముగానుండును. ఆయన కంఠము, లింగము, వీపు, పిక్కలు హ్రస్వములుగానుండును. శిరస్సుపై మూడు సుడులు కలవాడు. నాలుగు వేదములను సూచించు రేఖలు కలవాడు; అనగా బొటనివ్రేలి మొదటను, నొసటిపైనను, అఱచేతులలోను అఱికాళ్ళలోను నాలుగేసి రేఖలు కలవు. లలాట, పాద, పాణి తలములయందు నాలుగు రేఖలు కలవాడు. అతడు తొంబదియారు అంగుళముల ఎత్తైనవాడు. దేవతా సమానుడు. ఆయన బాహువులు, మోకాళ్ళు, ఊరువులు, పిక్కలు అనునవి నాల్గును హెచ్చు తగ్గులు లేకుండా సమానముగా నుండువాడు.
పదునాలుగు జతలు - అనగా కనుబొమలు, నాసికా పుటములు, నేత్రములు, చెవులు, పెదవులు, స్తనాగ్రములు, మోచేతులు, మణికట్టులు, మోకాళ్ళు, ముష్కములు, పిరుదులు, చేతులు, పాదములు, పిరుదులపై ఎత్తైన కండరములు సమ ప్రమాణములో కలవాడు. అతడు నాలుగు దంష్ట్రలు కలవాడు. నాలుగు మృగముల (సింహము, పెద్దపులి, ఏనుగు, వృషభము) నడకవంటి నడక కలవాడు. అందమైన పెదవులు, చుబుకము, నాసిక కలవాడు. ఓ దేవీ! ఆ రాముడు నిగనిగలాడు నేత్రములు, పలువరుస, చర్మము, పాదములు, కేశములు కలవాడు. జానకీ! ఆయన శరీరము, చేతివ్రేళ్ళు, కరములు, నాసిక, నయనములు, కర్ణములు, ప్రజనము అను అష్టవంశములు తగిన ప్రమాణములో కలవాడు.
శ్రీరాముడు పద్మములవంటి ముఖము, నేత్రములు, నోరు, నాలుక, పెదవులు, దవడలు, స్తనములు, గోళ్ళు, హస్తములు, పాదములు కలవాడు. అతడు శ్రేష్ఠమయిన శిరస్సు, లలాటము, చెవులు, కంఠము, వక్షము, హృదయము, నోరు, చేతులు, కాళ్ళు, వీపు అను పది అవయవములు కలవాడు. ఆ శ్రీరాముని తేజస్సు, యశస్సు, సంపదలు సర్వలో ప్రసిద్ధములు. పవిత్రములైన మాతృ, పితృ వంశములు కలవాడు. మఱియు స్వచ్ఛములైన దంతములు, నేత్రములు కలవాడు. చంకలు, ఉదరము, వక్షఃస్థలము, నాసిక, భుజములు, లలాటము అను ఉన్నతములైన ఆరు అంగములుగలవాడు. సూక్ష్మములైన వ్రేళ్ళ కణుపులు, వెంట్రుకలు, రోమములు, గోళ్ళ చర్మము, లింగము, మీసము, దృష్టి, బుద్ధి కలవాడు. పూర్వాహ్ణము, మధ్యాహ్నము, అపరాహ్ణము అను త్రికాలములయందును ధర్మార్థకామములను ఆచరించుచుండువాడు.
ध्येयत्वाच्छोभनै रङ्गैः शुभाङ्गः इति कथ्यते / Dhyeyatvācchobhanai raṅgaiḥ śubhāṅgaḥ iti kathyate As He has to be meditated by devotees as having beautiful well formed limbs, He is called Śubhāṅgaḥ.

दुन्दुभिस्वननिर्घोषः स्निग्धवर्णः प्रतापवान् ।
समस्समविभक्ताङ्गो वर्णं श्यामं समाश्रितः ॥ १६ ॥
त्रिस्थिरस्त्रिप्रलम्बश्च त्रिसमस्त्रिषु चोन्नतः ।
त्रिताम्रस्त्रिषु च स्निग्धो गम्भीरस्त्रिषु नित्यशः ॥ १७ ॥
त्रिवलीवांस्त्र्यवनतः चतुर्व्यङ्गस्त्रिशीर्षवान् ।
चतुष्कलश्चतुर्लेखः चतुष्किष्कुश्चतुस्समः ॥ १८ ॥
चतुर्दशसमद्वन्द्वः चतुर्दंष्ट्रश्चतुर्गतिः ।
महोष्ठहनुनासश्च पञ्चस्निग्धोऽष्टवंशवान् ॥ १९ ॥
दशपद्मो दशबृहत् त्रिभिर्व्याप्तोद्विशुक्लवान् ।
षडुन्नतो नवतनुः त्रिभिर्व्याप्नोति राघवः ॥ २० ॥

Dundubhisvananirghoṣaḥ snigdhavarṇaḥ pratāpavān,
Samassamavibhaktāṅgo varṇaṃ śyāmaṃ samāśritaḥ. 16.
Tristhirastripralambaśca trisamastriṣu connataḥ,
Tritāmrastriṣu ca snigdho gambhīrastriṣu nityaśaḥ. 17.
Trivalīvāṃstryavanataḥ caturvyaṅgastriśīrṣavān,
Catuṣkalaścaturlekhaḥ catuṣkiṣkuścatussamaḥ. 18.
Caturdaśasamadvandvaḥ caturdaṃṣṭraścaturgatiḥ,
Mahoṣṭhahanunāsaśca pañcasnigdho’ṣṭavaṃśavān. 19.
Daśapadmo daśabr̥hat tribhirvyāptodviśuklavān,
Ṣaḍunnato navatanuḥ tribhirvyāpnoti rāghavaḥ. 20.
He has a voice like the sound of a kettle-drum. He has a shining skin. He is full of splendor. He is square-built. His limbs are built symmetrically. He is endowed with a dark-brown complexion.
He is ever firm in three limbs (viz. the breast, waist and fist), long in three (viz. the breast, waist and fist), long in three (viz. the eyebrows, arms and soles), uniform in three (viz. his locks, testicle and knees, elevated in three (viz. his breast, rim of his navel and lower abdomen), coppery in three of the navel and the lower abdomen), coppery in three (viz. the rims of his eyes, nails, palms and soles), soft in three (viz. the lines on his soles, hair and the end of the membrum virile) and always deep in three (viz. the voice, gait and the navel).
He has three folds in the skin of his neck and belly. He is depressed at three places (viz. the middle of his soles, the lines on his soles and the nipples). He is undersized at four places (viz. the neck, membrane virile, the back and the shanks). He is endowed with three spirals in the hair of his head. He has four lines at the root of his thumb (denoting his proficiency in the four Vedas). He has four lines on his forehead (indicating longevity). He is four cubits high (96 inches). He has four pairs of limbs (viz. the cheeks, arms, shanks and knees) equally matched.
He has fourteen other pairs of limbs (viz. the eye brows, nostrils, eyes, ears, lips, nipples, elbows, wrists, knees testicles, lions, hands, feet and thighs) equally matched. The four large teeth at both the ends of his upper and lower jaws are very sharp. He walks in four gaits (resembling the walks of a lion, a tiger, an elephant and a bull). He is endowed with excellent lips, chin and nose. He has five glossy limbs (viz. the hair, eyes, teeth, skin and soles). He has eight long limbs (viz. the arms, fingers and toes, eyes and ears, thighs and shanks).
Rama has ten lotus-like limbs (viz. the countenance, the mouth, the eyes, the tongue, lips, palate, breasts, nails, the hands and the feet). He has ten ample limbs (viz. the chest, the head, the forehead, the neck, the arms, the heart, the mouth the feet, the back and the ears). He is spread through by reason of three (viz. splendor, renown and glory). He is doubly pure (on father's and mother's side). He is elevated in six limbs (viz. the flanks, the abdomen, the breast, the nose, the shoulders and the forehead). He is small, thin, fine or sharp in nine (viz. the hair, the moustaches and the beard, nails the hair on the body, the skin, the finger-joints, the membrum virile, acumen and perception). He pursues religious merit, worldly riches and the sensuous delight in three periods (viz. the forenoon, midday and afternoon).
