గోపవేషధరో విష్ణుర్గోపతిః పాలనాద్గవామ్ ।
అథవా గౌర్మహీ తస్యాః పతిత్వాద్వా తథోచ్యతే ॥
గోపవేషధరుడైన విష్ణువు గోవుల రక్షకుడిగా గోపతిః అని ఎరుగబడును. లేదా 'గౌః' అనగా భూమి. ఆమెకు పతి అనియూ చెప్పదగును. 'గో' శబ్దమునకు ఇంద్రియము అని కూడా అర్థముగలదు. ఈ కోణములో ఇంద్రియముల రక్షకుడు అనగా ముఖ్య ప్రాణతత్త్వముగా కూడా విష్ణువును గోపతిః నామము ద్వారా కీర్తించవచ్చును.
गोपवेषधरो विष्णुर्गोपतिः पालनाद्गवाम् ।
अथवा गौर्मही तस्याः पतित्वाद्वा तथोच्यते ॥
Gopaveṣadharo viṣṇurgopatiḥ pālanādgavām,
Athavā gaurmahī tasyāḥ patitvādvā tathocyate.
Donning the garb of a cowherd, He protects the cows and hence is called Gopatiḥ. 'Gau' can mean earth and hence Gopatiḥ may also be taken as the lord of earth. 'Go' can also be interpreted as sensory organ and Lord Viṣṇu as the protector of sensory organs or as the prime life force is Gopatiḥ.
| उत्तरो गोपतिर्गोप्ता ज्ञानगम्यः पुरातनः । |
| शरीरभूतभृद् भोक्ता कपीन्द्रो भूरिदक्षिणः ॥ ५३ ॥ |
| ఉత్తరో గోపతిర్గోప్తా జ్ఞానగమ్యః పురాతనః । |
| శరీరభూతభృద్ భోక్తా కపీన్ద్రో భూరిదక్షిణః ॥ 53 ॥ |
| Uttaro gopatirgoptā jñānagamyaḥ purātanaḥ, |
| Śarīrabhūtabhr̥d bhoktā kapīndro bhūridakṣiṇaḥ ॥ 53 ॥ |
