న కేనాప్యవతారేషు జిత ఇత్యజితః స్మృతః ఏ అవతారముయందును ఎవరిచేతనూ జయించబడనివాడు అజితః.
:: శ్రీమద్రామాయణే యుద్ధ కాణ్డే విశన్త్యుత్తరశతతమః సర్గః ::
శార్ఙ్గధన్వా హృషీకేశః పురుషః పురుషోత్తమః ।
అజితః ఖడ్గదృద్విష్ణుః కృష్ణశ్చైవ బృహద్బలః ॥ 16 ॥
సేనానీర్గ్రామణీశ్చ త్వం బుద్ధిః క్షమా దమః ।
ప్రభవశ్చాఽప్యయశ్చ త్వమ్ ఉపేన్ద్రో మధుసూదనః ॥ 17 ॥
'శార్ఙ్గము' అను ధనుస్సును ధరించువాడవు, ఇంద్రియములను జయించినవాడవు, సర్వప్రాణుల హృదయములయందు నివసించియుండువాడవు. నిత్యానిత్యవస్తువులకు అతీతుడవైన పరమాత్మవు. ఆశ్రితులను రక్షించుటయందు భంగపాటు లేనివాడవు. ఎవ్వరిచే జయించబడనివాడవు. 'నందకము' అను ఖడ్గమును కలిగియుండువాడవు, విశ్వమునందంతటను వ్యాపించియుండువాడవు, జగత్తునకు ఊరట గూర్చువాడవు, మిగుల బలశాలివి, దేవతల సేనలకు సర్వాధిపతివి, సమస్తప్రాణికోటిని నడిపించువాడవు, సదసద్వీక్షణుడవు, శుద్ధ సత్త్వ స్వరూపుడవు. ఆశ్రితుల అపరాధములను మన్నించువాడవు. ఇంద్రియ నిగ్రహముగలవాడవు. జగదుద్పత్తికి స్థానమైనవాడవు. సర్వజగత్తునకు లయస్థానమైనవాడవు. ఇంద్రునకు సోదరుడిగా అవతరించిన ఉపేంద్రుడవు. 'మధువు' అను రాక్షసుడిని సంహరించినవాడవు.
न केनाप्यवतारेषु जित इत्यजितः स्मृतः / Na kenāpyavatāreṣu jita ityajitaḥ smr̥taḥ In no incarnation has he been conquered and hence He is Ajitaḥ.

शार्ङ्गधन्वा हृषीकेशः पुरुषः पुरुषोत्तमः ।
अजितः खड्गदृद्विष्णुः कृष्णश्चैव बृहद्बलः ॥ १६ ॥
सेनानीर्ग्रामणीश्च त्वं बुद्धिः क्षमा दमः ।
प्रभवश्चाऽप्ययश्च त्वम् उपेन्द्रो मधुसूदनः ॥ १७ ॥
Śrīmad Rāmāyaṇa - Book VI, Chapter 120
Śārṅgadhanvā hr̥ṣīkeśaḥ puruṣaḥ puruṣottamaḥ,
Ajitaḥ khaḍgadr̥dviṣṇuḥ kr̥ṣṇaścaiva br̥hadbalaḥ. 16.
Senānīrgrāmaṇīśca tvaṃ buddhiḥ kṣamā damaḥ,
Prabhavaścā’pyayaśca tvam upendro madhusūdanaḥ. 17.
You are the wielder of a bow called Śārṅga, the lord of the senses, the supreme soul of the universe, the best of men, the invincible, the wielder of a sword named Nandaka, the all-pervader, the bestower of happiness to the earth and endowed with great might.
You are the leader of the army and the village headman. You are the intellect. You are the endurance and the subduer of the senses. You are the origin and the dissolution of all, Upendra the Divine Dwarf and the younger brother of Indra as also the destroyer of Madhu, the demon.
| वेदास्स्वाङ्गोऽजितःकृष्णो दृढस्सङ्कर्षणोऽच्युतः । |
| वरुणो वारुणो वृक्षः पुष्कराक्षो महामनाः ॥ ५९ ॥ |
| వేదాస్స్వాఙ్గోఽజితఃకృష్ణో దృఢస్సఙ్కర్షణోఽచ్యుతః । |
| వరుణో వారుణో వృక్షః పుష్కరాక్షో మహామనాః ॥ 59 ॥ |
| Vedāssvāṅgo’jitaḥkr̥ṣṇo dr̥ḍassaṅkarṣaṇo’cyutaḥ, |
| Varuṇo vāruṇo vr̥kṣaḥ puṣkarākṣo mahāmanāḥ ॥ 59 ॥ |
